Rainbow Experiment by JustDayside Rainbow Experiment by JustDayside
I worked up a new kinda standard imaginary pony anatomy thing an' I wanted ta try it out, so I made a borin' ol' standin' there doin' nothin' Dash painting. I like I lot of what's here, other things not so much. In that mentioned anatomy I totally didn't bother thinkin' about the hooves 'cos I thought I'd be able to fudge 'em fer sure. Uh, not so.

Still figurin' out how ta do heads an' hair, think I needa tone down the triceps. Even though the head does look a little wonky, I think it looks kinda cute, too, hahah. I'unno, the search goes on.

Also I seem to be havin' a hard time toning down saturation now, hahahah. I guess now's the time I have to be super conscious about it. XD

Also, I'm gonna throw this link in to the next few submissions I put up here -- started a Tumblr that'll be hostin' everythin' I put up here, plus a little more. here's the link! [link]

I think the head is great! I feel like saying the seam running along the sides of the nose are too sharp, but the more I look at it, the more it seems to fit.

Muscle definition adds a nice touch. Seems a little strong on the lower triceps. Horses are muscular creature, though. I mean, they're like four legged body builders. I don't understand people who think they're cute...

The fur around the ankles are supposed to overlap the hoof (on actual horse, anyway) instead of the hoof extending that far out. Uh, if you know what I mean. [link]

The thighs seem a little bit small and the front leg on the right is broken...but I'm just nitpicking here. It looks great :)

Hahah, all points ring true. An' I don't really like the sharpness on the seam that you mentioned, but I haven't really invested the time I needa into figuring out pony faces yet. I'unno, a lot of things are like puzzles I have to solve before I paint 'em, an' I know that's lame, but I still haven't solved that bridge of the snout.

Given, horses do have muscles like that, I wanna try to tone it down a bit from what I have here -- or just depending on the pony. I'm cool with, say, AJ having really defined muscles, but fer RD, who, though strong, is built (in my head) fer maneuverability, would be a little bit more trim.

As fer the hooves, I'm trying to find a compromise between horse hooves and MLP Pony hooves -- still workin' on solving that, too. XD

Thanks fer the input! :D

For the hooves, are you aiming for something like what this artist does? [link]

Sooorta, but not really. There's not enough structure there fer me -- it works really well fer them because, in general, their characters follow kinda show-like style in terms of anatomy, with just a few extra details. I'm kinda hopin' ta construct some imaginary muscle groups I can keep in mind while I'm drawin' the hooves, hahah.

I actually did a really successful little sketch of hooves, exactly how I want them! Uh, trouble's that I can't seem to do it again, hahah. Gonna be practicing that an' expressions all day tomorrow, prob'ly. XD

Lol, I know how it is. I'll draw one arm or leg of a character, and it'll be beautiful. Then I go to the other side and it ends up looking like a noodle.

Thanks so much! Hahah, although I wouldn't say the hair was effortless, hahah, took me a looong time ta figure out how I wanted it ta look -- an' I think the method could still be improved. Also, I have no idea how I'd handle hair like Pinkie's, I'd just have to play with it. XD

I'unno, keep experimenting! I believe in ya! :D
